May Moments: Honoring Moms, Heroes & Mental Health

May 2025

May is a month full of heart—from celebrating moms to honoring heroes and supporting emotional well-being. As the days grow warmer and school winds down, it’s the perfect time to pause, reflect, and reconnect as a family.

Mother’s Day: Celebrating Supermoms Everywhere

Mother’s Day is more than flowers and cards—it’s about recognizing the incredible love, strength, and care that moms (and mother figures!) pour into their families every day.

Kid-Friendly Ways to Celebrate Mom:

  • Breakfast in Bed (Kid Style): Think toast, fruit, and a sweet note—simple but heartfelt!
  • DIY Love: Encourage little ones to make a handmade card or a “coupon book” of hugs, chores, or special time.
  • Thank You Jar: Fill a jar with notes from each family member sharing what they love about Mom.

Moms, don’t forget to care for yourselves too. A rested, happy mom helps make a happy home.

Mental Health Matters: Awareness & Support

May is also Mental Health Awareness Month—a reminder that emotional well-being is just as important as physical health, especially for kids.

Helping Kids Build Strong Mental Health:

  • Name the Feelings: Teach kids to identify emotions like happy, sad, frustrated, or anxious.
  • Create Calm Spaces: A quiet corner with books or soft items can be a peaceful retreat.
  • Stay Connected: Daily check-ins, open conversations, and routine family time build emotional safety.
  • Know When to Ask for Help: If your child seems overly withdrawn, anxious, or upset, talk to us. Pediatricians are here for emotional support too.

Memorial Day: Honor, Reflect, and Teach

While Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer, it’s also a time to honor those who gave their lives in service to our country.

Meaningful Memorial Day Moments with Kids:

  • Flags and Flowers: Visit a memorial or cemetery and leave flowers or small flags to honor fallen heroes.
  • Gratitude Talks: Discuss bravery, sacrifice, and the importance of saying thank you to those who serve.
  • Craft with Purpose: Make red, white, and blue art or thank-you cards for veterans and active-duty military.

May is a beautiful blend of gratitude, growth, and grace. Whether you’re celebrating a special mom, honoring a brave hero, or focusing on mental wellness, take time to connect with the people who matter most.

As always, we’re here for your child’s whole health—mind, body, and heart. Happy May from all of us!
